First Class - Intermediate English I

Hello everybody! Time goes fast and I am so glad that we already started the Teaching Practicum for this semester because this is the last one at the University. Well, I taught my first class today. I am teaching an Intermediate Level in the morning.
But, how was my class?
In order to practice the Present Perfect; I prepared a PDP on a movie segment. I think it was funny for students because the video was taken from the movie: Flushed Away.
First, I made the warm- up and a review on the topic, and then I developed the PDP.
For the Pre Activity, I showed them a flashcard with the title and characters of the movie, and I asked them: Have you ever watched this movie? Then, I gave them a worksheet, and they had to write five activities they have done today (Using Present Perfect), for example: I have taken breakfast, I have driven my car, etc.
For the During Activity, I played this video:

I asked them to make pairs. I played the video the first time and then, they discussed what they could observed by answering the question: What has he done today?
In the last activity (Post Activity) they made a list of five activities that the main character of the movie has done, but they haven’t done yet.
At the end it is important to let you know how the group is because as teachers we have to know how our students are or will be if you will teach this group in the future. Well, most of them don’t like to participate, and a boy desperate me because he was asking me really stupid questions during the all class, also he said a really bad vocabulary (nasty words) in my class. Let me tell you that I didn’t listen to what he said, and I think that it was better because I could feel so angry. However, I am going to establish the rules in the class the next time.

Ok class, now you know how my class was, and the problems that I had during the class. Nevertheless, teaching is what I love J Thanks for your comments!!! Take care!!!

  1. Hello,Isa.It´s nice to comment on your entries. The activities you developed are really great. Showing a video it´s always good because Ss have the chance to learn visually. You always do a good job.
This bad experience you had there was really embarrassing. But Keep on walking.Life has its ups and downs.

  2. Hello! Isabel

I really liked all the activities you did, because you used different materials such as; flashcards, computer, etc. And I consider it is very important in order to facilitate our students learning process.
Regarding with the problem you had, let me tell you that I had similar problems with some students and it is really uncomfortable, but as you said we can change that if we establish the rules in the classroom. Let's continue working hard..BLESSINGS!

  3. Hi Isa!!!! As you mentioned, the PDP lesson was really nice, I like to much the movie and for sure I enjoyed the video too. As we know, in every single group they enjoy a lot the warm ups in which they can move around, and express their emotions in a very kinestheric way, for that reason I really like the way you develop the warm up activity. Sometimes things don´t go in the way we want, but the most important is to reach the objective of our class...and you did it nomather the technological problems you had at te beginning....Congratulations!!!!

  4. Honestly, you have always been creative, and that is a good thing that you must keep developing. Planning a PDP framework says so much of you because you are applying everything that we studied in the previous years. I am glad that you had a very nice class and reached your objective. Keep working hard, and I know that you will always do well as you have so far. Cheers.

  5. Hello girl, as the rest have said using a PDP is a great idea and helps students get things easier, I know planning that way takes too much time but in the end you see the results, as you did it Isa, I like the idea of implementing this framework hope i can use it later. And about the boy, do not pay attention to the things he says, and ask him to go out if he does not want to take classes or maybe your tutor can help you with that.

    Great job!!!
